Lionel Train Sets
The Lionel set is an American icon. Many of us have fond memories of our first train set, seeing it run, the sound, the electrical smell. Lionel train sets are difficult to find at full collectors value because so many things have to be right for a set or "outfit" (to use Lionel terminology) to gain that coveted C-8 (like new) or C-10 (mint) status. Every piece of the set must be present all the original packaging undamaged and so on. But sets are valuable for the sheer enjoyment in my opinion.
A Lionel Set also serves as a gateway to future hobbyist who go on to create more elaborate layouts for their growing model train collection.

I remember visiting the Museum of Science and Industry as a child and being fascinated by their gigantic model railroad display. It was different from the current version pictured here. What a thrill!
