Lionel Passenger Cars
After the World War 2 it took awhile for Lionel to catch up to the latest streamline trend in passenger cars. Re-tooling for a new line took considerable time. To fill the gap, Lionel's first postwar passenger cars appeared to be a hybrid compromise between the sheet metal painted appearance of the heavyweight cars of just a few years before and the sleek rounded look of the new postwar sliver streamline pullman passenger cars.
By 1952 Lionel caught up and really made a big hit with new stunning, sleek, silver, realistic, streamlined passenger cars. Features included life like aluminum construction and interior illumination. The streamline passenger car sets included variations of the Pullman sleeper, baggage car, observation car with rounded end and the dome car. Add to these exciting passenger cars, the perfect locomotive in the new Santa Fe F3 and it's easy to see why Lionel was in it's "Golden Era", at the peak of popularity and the height of it's success.
