Prewar Lionel Train Sets
Prewar Lionel trains were generally less detailed than later models. The hobby of model railroading had yet to be defined as such. It was still evolving from the realm of fancy toy or novelty to detailed modeling and serious hobby.
Lionel took a lead position in the industry by advocating for a standard track size, the first of which was called of all things, "Standard Gauge". The Lionel Prewar period also saw the introduction of "O gauge" . Construction was typically heavy gauge sheet metal and cast iron. Bright colors were also very prevalent especially in the mid prewar period (1926 - 1929).
