Lionel 2023 Union Pacific - Model Trains Yard

Lionel 2023 Union Pacific

With the differing body style of the ALCO A locomotive, the Lionel 2023 Union Pacific were first produced in 1950. Appointed with the then state of the art features such as Magnetraction, an operating horn, operating front coil coupler, two piece ornamental horns and the classic Union Pacific yellow paint job, there are about four variations that differ greatly in their value.

The Type I variant of the Union Pacific diesel locomotive is most valuable, fetching a price of $2000 for very good condition and up to $4500 for like new condition ( according to the Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains by David Doyle). You can identify a Type I variant by the nose of the locomotive which is painted grey on the top (what would be equivalent to the hood of a car).

The Type II through Type IV are more common and thus have a lower value.
