The Type I variant of the Union Pacific diesel locomotive is most valuable, fetching a price of $2000 for very good condition and up to $4500 for like new condition ( according to the Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains by David Doyle). You can identify a Type I variant by the nose of the locomotive which is painted grey on the top (what would be equivalent to the hood of a car).
The Type II through Type IV are more common and thus have a lower value.
